AAMS
Association of Air Medical Services
Leading and Serving Transport Medicine

A joint message from AAMS President, Tim Pickering and AAMS CEO, Rick Sherlock...

August 8, 2012

Dear AAMS Members -

The AAMS Board of Directors recently returned from our strategic planning meeting held in Denver, Colorado. We are happy to report that the meeting was highly productive, and AAMS leadership and staff have returned home energized and invigorated for the year ahead!

Since mid-March, AAMS staff has been working tirelessly on an extensive draft of a strategic plan that was presented to the members of the AAMS Board. The Board had the opportunity to review the draft plan for comment, and following several amendments to the draft, the Board voted unanimously to adopt the plan for implementation.

During the course of the full-day meeting, we focused heavily on fine-tuning our mission and vision statements:

Mission
The Association of Air Medical Services supports our members, their employees, their families, and the patients they serve, by:

  • Advocating for the Air Medical and Critical Care Ground Transport Industry and their life-saving contributions to our communities around the world.
  • Providing programs that enhance our members' ability to provide quality medical care and provide safe and effective air medical and critical care ground transportation.
  • Providing professional education, safety programs, and information programs and opportunities.

Vision
The Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) is an international trade association headquartered in the Washington, DC area. We are a dedicated team, committed to representing the Air Medical and the Critical Care Ground Transport Industry and supporting our members who proudly serve their communities throughout the United States and around the world.

AAMS is a non-profit 501C (6) trade association that represents and advocates on behalf of our membership to enhance their ability to deliver quality, safe, and effective medical care and medical transportation for every patient in-need. AAMS provides numerous professional development opportunities for our members at a variety of local, national, and international events.

Our revised mission and vision statements were followed by an evaluation of a refined set of core values that we will use as the principles to guide us into future endeavors.

The Association is committed to these values:
Excellence
Integrity
Professionalism
Inclusiveness
Transparency
Innovation
Responsiveness

The plan then moved on to principle tasks identified and addressed within each AAMS department:

Advocacy
AAMS speaks out for the Air Medical and Critical Care Ground Transport Industry who serve our communities and nations with pride and commitment.

Education and Information Programs
Public support for the Air Medical and Critical Care Ground Transport industry can only come when people know and understand the value our programs provide to our communities and nations.

Chapter and Community Involvement
AAMS has chapters made up entirely of volunteers located around the US and around the world. Our chapters provide educational, networking, and recreational opportunities for our members and their families. Our members are involved in, and provide critical life-saving services to, their communities.

Membership and Membership Services
The Association was built on the idea that representation from a variety of medical transport services can be brought together to share information, resolve problems, and provide leadership in the community. The Association represents over 700 companies, programs, and individuals and remains committed to working with our members. AAMS strives, each day, to provide a wide-range of tangible member benefits and services.

And finally, we concluded with a thorough and critical financial review, including our fiscal strategy through FY2018. As the stewards of your membership dues, the AAMS Board and Staff are committed to a focus on the environment in which our industry operates so that we may most effectively represent our air and critical care ground members. We have built in measures of effectiveness for both leadership and staff, and have put emphasis on both logistics and resources so that we can accurately forecast and budget into the future.

It should be noted that the MedEvac Foundation Board of Directors has approved a compatible strategic plan that will further align AAMS and the MedEvac Foundation to work together as both organizations move forward. Additional information will be coming from the MedEvac Foundation shortly - stay tuned!

At any time, we welcome your thoughts, comments, questions or concerns - pickeringtim@air-evac.com and/or rsherlock@aams.org.

Sincerely,

Tim Pickering, AAMS President
